TMAO, Cardiovascular Disease Study Flawed

The media was quick to raise the alarm for a study which asserts meat causes cardiovascular disease (CVD), due to spikes in a compound known as TMAO. There is no cause for alarm yet. While not all meat is healthy, the study doesn't convincingly support its claim.

Hidden Salmonella Outbreak

There is late-breaking news on the name of the mysterious restaurant the FDA withheld in the October 2011 Salmonella outbreak. Investigators at Food Safety News and ABC News have revealed it was, in fact, Taco Bell. There were 68 reported cases of illnesses. Taco Bell believes there is no further threat of infection at this time.

Warning on Arsenic Levels in Juices

There have been recent findings of high arsenic levels in apple and grape juices, including reports by Consumer Reports and Dr. Oz. While no limits have been set for juices, Cyanide levels in many juice brands tested exceeded the threshold for water - set at 10 ppb. Apple seeds are known to contain cyanide, but not arsenic.
